UPSILON EPSILON

CHAPTER HISTORY

Authenticity, Loyalty, Determination

On June 25, 2011, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. chartered the 923rd house of Alpha, the Undisputed Upsilon Epsilon Chapter located on the campus of Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD.  Three brave young men, Jonathan Briscoe, Christopher Hemsley, and Ricky Felton II would go on to become YE's Charter Member's, and forever known as "Cold War."  These men firmly ingrained the principles of authenticity, loyalty, and determination into the chapter's DNA which can still be seen within its brothers today.  It wasn't however, until May 4, 2014, after the initiation of the chapter's Spring 2014 line, Anarchy, that the Upsilon Epsilon Chapter moved from colony status and received its official charter from the fraternity.

In its brief history, the Upsilon Epsilon Chapter and its members have brought immense change and leadership to the Salisbury University community.  Its members led the re-chartering of the NAACP chapter on campus, headed the re-established Black Student Union, was the first NPHC organization to conduct a scholarship pageant on campus, led the fight for change with school administration on behalf of the minority communities on campus, worked with mentoring elementary, middle, and high school students, and have established and championed programs that have embraced fairness, inclusivity, and openness.

Since beginning with three members, the Upsilon Epsilon Chapter has initiated a total of 28 authentic, loyal, and determined brothers who now call it home.  Our history, while brief, is full of accomplishment and prestige, and it set the pace of the resurgence of National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations at Salisbury University.  The Upsilon Epsilon Chapter continues to be a shining example of the fraternity's aims of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind, on both Salisbury University's campus as well as the greater Salisbury community.
